Diseases detecting bacteria.
Diseases are one of the most important problems that are standing in front of human race. I would like to introduce a possible way to conquer some of diseases.
Lots of problems connected with excretory system can be detected by testing consistency of our urine. Here is a list of diseases and their symptoms:
Nephron damage, Internal bleeding, damage of the ureters, endoparasites - presence of erythrocyte.
Infection - Presence of leucocytes.
Diabetes - Presence of glucose.
Damage of the nephron capsule - Presence of proteins.
Kidney stones - Salt surplus.
People have known this fact for centuries and are using it in fighting with diseases. But equipment that is necessary for accurate measurements is expensive and can only be found in hospitals. That is why an average person usually passes this tests only once a year. But this frequency of measurements is often not enough because in most cases a disease is detected at the stage when it already causes lots of problems, which are mostly dangerous.We can solve problem of low frequency of testes by inventing a genetically modified bacteria.
My design will allow bacteria to detect abnormalities in urine and to warn about it. Bacterias are going to live in a toilet sink. When bacterias will detect a deviation in urine they will glow signaling a problem. This will help to prevent disease in the early stages.
At the moment technologies which allow taking urine tests at home do exist. To take analysis at home you need to buy a testing kit in which you will find test strips with chemicals. You can use one strip only once after that you have to get a new one. However this kit is quite expensive and you are going to spend time while using it. Also such a measuring instrument is quite inaccurate and sometimes false.
The Idea of my design is to make urine tests common and with no time spending. I would like to make a bacteria which can live under your toilet sink seat. It will get into the water of your toilet with every water flush. Every time when urine of unhealthy person gets into the water bacterias are going to notify this human about problems by glowing. After the person learned about the problem, he can consult a doctor for more accurate information.
To do its job bacterias will need to have a lot of receptors. As we all know DNA is responsible for the appearance of everything in living sell. That is why the main challenge is to discover DNA for these receptors. Bacterias receptors must identify the abnormality in human urine. Here is a list of abnormalities:
Presence of Fe(II), which can be found in a erythrocyte.
Presence of leucocytes.
Presence of glucose.
Salt surplus.
Presence of proteins.
When the bacteria detects any abnormalities in urine it needs to notify about this a human. That is why we need to ad into the bacteria a gene which will make a glowing organoid.
To make this idea possible I also need a devise in which bacterias are going to live and mellow. Bacterias colony will live in a main section and will be fed by nutrient solution. The composition of the nutrient solution can include everything except glucose because bacterias will be glowing when they will feel glucose. This solution will be spread by second section through a fixed time span. In order to make this devise work second section needs to be reloaded with a special tablet in about a month. Bacterias will be released by portions in while water flushes.
There are certain advantages of this project. Such as rapidity, convenience and durability.
Potential problems:
When something will get into your toilet it will glow until next water flush.
Mutations of the bacteria.
Glowing canalizations (this problem can be solved by making bacteria able to eat only nutrient solution).
